A POLICEMAN from Timperley has received a commendation for bravery after he helped a driver who he had a sudden heart attack.

Constable Lee Martin, was on mobile patrol when he went to a road traffic accident where a man had collapsed and was trapped in his car.

The quick-thinking officer forced open the driver's door and checked the man's condition.

When he found that the victim had no heartbeat, he began external cardiac massage and continued until the fire service and paramedics arrived 10 minutes later.

It was later discovered that the 28 year-old man had a rare heart disorder - but thanks to Constable Martin's swift action, he made a full recovery.

At a special awards ceremony, attended by the Chief Constable David Wilmot, Lee received his Citation of Merit and the St John's Ambulance Award.

He told SAM "It's great to be appreciated for the job you do. The driver was very fortunate we were nearby."
