Altrincham Jets v Kingston Crunch
AFTER the disappointing defeat away at Kingston last week, the Jets were determined to exact their revenge.
In an exciting game, the Jets pulled off an important win over table topper Kingston.
The game started with a goal on 59 secs from Jets number 9, Rob Brownbill, who jinked through the Kingston defence and scored.
The play was fast and furious, end to end hockey with some thundering hits and it wasn't until 8.22 that Kingston equalised with a powerplay goal from Ryan Johnson assisted by Ryan Lake.
Rob Brownbill assisted by Luke Stretton quickly replied on 8.52 taking the lead once more for the Jets.
Kingston equalised on 12.34 with a goal from Michael Jones assisted by Ben Mihench and Ryan Lake, they took the lead on 13.52 with a goal from Ben Milhench assisted by Michael Jones.
The period ended 3-2 to Kingston.
The Jets came out after the break with renewed energy and Ashley O'Leary scored an unassisted goal on 16.44 to equalised, Kingston once more sneaked ahead with a goal from Ryan Lake assisted by Nathan Hunt on 22.40.
The game continued in much the same vein as the first period, fast end to end hockey.
The period ended with Kingston ahead 4-3.
With the ice resurfaced and the Jets firing on all cylinders, the third period began.
On 31.21 the Jets equalised with a goal from Ashley O'Leary assisted by Craig Booth.
Craig Booth then went on to score for himself on 32.01 assisted by Rob Brownbill and Ashley O'Leary.
This took the score to 5-4 in favour of the Jets.
Three minutes and 39 secs later Kingston equalised with a goal from Tom Boyson assisted by Nathan Hunt.
Kingston then besieged the Altrincham net for what seemed like a lifetime, looking for the winning goal.
With the seconds ticking away, the Jets broke out and passed the puck up the ice, from James Ashton in defence, to Brian Worrall in the centre and then to Ashley O'Leary near the net, in the most nail-biting finish I have ever witnessed the puck cross the line with one second remaining on the clock.
The Altrincham crowd and players erupted with delight and Kingston could not believe that the draw had been snatched from them.
Man of the match for Altrincham Rob Brownbill.
Next play-off on Sunday 2nd May Sheffield face off 17.30.
