Altrincham Kersal 24

WHEN their scheduled opponents, Rossendale, cried off this final game of the season, Altrincham Kersal were able to arrange this fixture with Chester, a club two levels above AKRFC.

For the first 10 minutes Altrincham Kersal took the game to Chester until Chester counter attacked, forcing Altrincham Kersal to concede a penalty.

However, the kick missed, as did an Altrincham Kersal attempt some five minutes later.

The play ebbed to and fro for the rest of the half until, in injury time, Daldry converted a penalty to make the score 3-0 to Altrincham Kersal at the whistle.

Two minutes into the second half, AKRFC gained possession from a scrum and Daldry received the ball on the loop to score a try which he converted himself.

Chester replied by launching a series of attacks which resulted in their scoring an unconverted try.

Altrincham Kersal captain Jamie Hart then put the seal on his successful year by running a try in from 20 yards.

Daldry converted.

Chester then showed their class and put together a series of forward drives, retained possession and scored under the posts.

The final score, by Altrincham Kersal came when Daldry's attempt at a drop goal was charged down by the Chester defence.

Centre Wilson gathered the loose ball and reverse passed to Daldry for him to score his second try which he also converted.

It was an exciting game, with both sides creating chances to score and played in a good spirit.

This win and the style of the win augers well for Altrincham Kersal's move up to NW1 League next season.

Other results were Rossendale 2ndXV 12 AKRFC 61, AKRFC 3rd XV 24 Rossendale 3rd XV 14.
