Flixton 3
Droylsden 2
FLIXTON entertained the champions elect Droylsden -nicknamed the 'Bloods' on Saturday with the pitch in perfect condition. The sun was out and everyone looked forward to a feast of attacking football.
Droylsden started the brighter side with Morley looking very impressive.
Flixton were trying to find the pace of the game when danger man Lee Cooper had a glancing header beat Corfield in the Flixton goal.
Flixton almost replied immediately with a Jody Banim free kick from fully 20 yards. The ball crashed into the Bloods' defence, and then trickled through to Williams in the Droylsden goal.
Flixton were back on level terms through Paul Garvey, McIntosh releasing him down Flixton's left.
The midfielder left Taylor for dead, took the ball around the advancing Waring and then hit a volley from fully 35 yards.
The sheer pace of the ball gave Williams no chance.
Valley Road has seen some superb goals this season but this was one of the finest.
With half time approaching, both teams seemed content to go in level at the break.
Within 6 minutes of the re-start Flixton fell behind to a soft goal by Wright.
Ashton rose to meet Waring's high ball into the box and Wright was there to apply the finishing touch.
Riches released Banim down the middle of the park and the young striker made no mistake, lobbing the ball over the advancing Williams.
Minutes later Maloney scored a deserved winner, running from the half way line beating the player before hitting a terrific shot behind Williams.
Alan McGreevey's young side had destroyed the champions elect by playing some fine attractive football.
Next week, Flixton are at home to Farsley KO 3pm.
