URMSTON junior hockey club coach Derek Milne was justify very proud of his players picking up shields the previous weekend as Lancashire East League Champions at U11, U13 and U15 level.
This overcomes the local side's disappointment in the earlier Mini hockey cup where an under strength U13 squad was well beaten by Formby who are now to represent the North in the England final.
During the playoffs the scorers at U13s were Kevin Smyth, Andrew Graham and Andrew Power with three each and Stephen McShane with two goals.
Excellent support play came from John Crossley and Ben Dutton whilst defenders Oliver Newton and Martin Stonehouse put in timely tackles and goalkeeper Ashley Wasilewski made some good saves to keep Urmston on top.
The U15s lost in the playoffs to Formby A, and to eventual champions Bolton 6-2 but managed a 2-2 draw against Formby B using some of the U13s squad.
Scorers were Kevin Smyth with a further 3 goals 2 from Rajiv Kay and 1 from Oliver Newton.
Ten year old Robin Cooper in defence showed why he is in the North West team whilst Oliver Thorley, brothers Rajiv and James Kay, and James Taylor featured prominently in the games and keeper Mike Power made a string of fine saves also saving a penalty.
The U11s whilst not in the playoffs were represented by Scott Bailey, Beckie Crossley, Stefan Wasileaski, Robin Cooper and Andrew Power during the presentation.
The first team won 3-1 against Buxton with goals from Oliver Cooper, Paul Graham and Ian Entiwistle.
A very competent North Staffs side outclassed the seconds.
Oliver Cooper however scored 2 goals with the first one being a brilliant solo goal and Urmston's goal of the season The thirds lost 3-4 lost in a keenly fought contest with Buxton 2nds with goals from Oliver Cooper, Alex Christie and Ray Adamson.
