PETLINE organiser Chris Butterworth is urging owners of bull terrier type dogs to be on their guard after two animals went missing in Trafford recently.

She suspects that the kidnapped pets are being used for the illegal sport of dog fighting.

What advice would she give to owners keen to protect their dogs?

"Keep them in and know exactly where they are" she says.

While Chris stresses that there has been no offical confirmation of her fears from animal welfare organisations, she wants locals to report anything suspicious to the police or the RSPCA on 0990 555 999.

On a happier note, 22 dogs and seven cats have been re-united with their relieved owners.
