I AM writing in reply to the letter of J Hall (SUM, April 15).

I agree with him that the cycle-paths in Trafford are a 'bit of a joke', but not for the reasons that he outlines.

Agreed they have been created on the cheap but there are a lot of cyclists who have to use them and these are the people who are risking life and limb for the sake of the environment.

The more experienced and wiser cyclists often ride on the pavement as this is far more safe than riding on these badly designed and implemented 'green-coloured paths'.

A white line drawn by the side of the road (as over the Parkway into Trafford Park) is not a cycle-path but merely a cheap alternative.

Many motorists just drive on it as and when required.

A cycle path should be for the use of cyclists only and not any other vehicle.

Perhaps if the council took a footpath off one side of every major road in Trafford and turned it into a cycle-path then there may well be a few more people willing to give up their cars.

This would not be inconvenient to the pedestrians as there are hardly any of them left!
