Another Step for Pelican
PELICAN FC took another step towards retaining their Altrincham Saturday League title with an emphatic victory at Sale West.
Mark Fairclough got them off the mark with a close range goal after just 10 minutes.
Rick 'Mossy' Mesquita set up fellow striker Darren Mee in the 22nd minute and 'Mimi' made it 2-0 with his 30th goal of the season.
Three minutes before half time, Mesquita took his own personal tally of 29 goals this season as he made it 3-0 with another cool finish.
Pelican centre half Keith Hutton failed to start the second half due to injury and Sale West began to find a little more space as Pelican re-organised.
In the 66th minute Pelican went 4-0 up when Steve Bennett finally got the goal he had been searching for and ten minutes later Darren Mee broke clear to bag his second goal and make it 5-0 with a clinicial finish.
Five minutes from time Steve Bennett scored an almost identical goal as he broke clear to fire past the advancing keeper and make it six.
This and other results on the day mean that the Pelican side now need just one point from four games to keep that cup in their trophy cabinet.
Pelican Reserves also had a good day against Atlantic Reserves, beating them 2-1
