A COUPLE from Partington are fuming after being left with a bill for repairs following an alleged 'road rage' attack.

Robert and Karen Teasdale say they face repair costs of up to £800 after their van was battered with a crowbar.

And the couple - who run their own 'Celebration Catering' business - are angry that the culprit was let off with only a caution by police.

According to Robert, the van was damaged during a row with a lorry driver who was blocking the road as he was driving along Atlantic Street in Altrincham one afternoon.

He says a lorry belonging to O'Gara Construction was barring his path, and after beeping a few times at the driver - whom he saw chatting by the side of the road - he finally shouted at him to move the vehicle out of the way.

A heated argument ensued, until the furious O'Gara employee reached inside the truck for a crowbar and smashed it on the Teasdales' van roof.

Robert rang the police and the driver was eventually given a caution. Now the angry Teasdales say they are picking up the tab for someone else's act of violence.

Mr Teasdale, still reeling from the ferocity of the attack, says:"I'm just disgusted that this has been allowed to happen and he's got away with it."

The owner of O'Gara's told SAM that the driver involved has now been sacked by the company and that he is willing to enter into discussions with the Teasdale's about compensation.

He says: "I didn't find out about this incident until a while after it had happened, but when I did I interviewed the truck driver about it and dismissed him.

"The company won't tolerate behaviour like this as we rely on the public for business. Obviously we apologise for any distress caused."
