CHRIS Hovington was named Brooklands Hockey Club Player of the Year and presented with the Admiral Leasing Shield by the company's managing director, Phillip Webb.
The former Ben Rhydding player, who took over the captaincy from Ralph Yates for the last few weeks of the season, was also voted skipper for the next season.
"Injuries before Christmas meant that he was rarely able to play in his best position but his attitude that he was just happy to be on the park and his focused approach made him one of the stars of the season," said coach Norman Hughes.
The team coach also paid tribute to goalkeeper Gary Stoneley who he said had played out of his skin and was deserving of being looked at for England selection again.
David Dowdal was described as a real capture for the club, fitting in well both on and off the field
