Stockport 20
SALE Lacrosse first team were taught a harsh lesson on Saturday, when they challenged high-flying Stockport at Metrovicks.
From the first face-off, it was clear who had the upper hand, as Stockport's superior ball control and skill enabled them to dominate the game.
Stockport won 20-5, a disappointing resulot for Sale, whch almost certainly relegates them to the lower division.
The Sale scorers were P Simpsonm (2), Lewis, Jones and Ardern.
The scrip was different however for Sale A as they entertained top of the table Stockport C, also at Metrovicks. Stockport gained an early two-goal advantage which they kept until the end of the third quarter, when the score was 7-5.
Through determination and pressure from Sale, the Stockport defence finally collapsed, allowing the home team to hit the back of the net six times in the final quarter. This completed a great comeback for Sale as they clinched the game 11-9. The Sale scorers were R Simpson (6), D Buckingham (3), Morrison and veteran defender Atkinson. Special credit should be paid to R Buckingham for stepping in between the sticks at the last minute.
The highlight of the weekend took place on Sunday, as Sale A massacred Norbury. All the team played superbly. The Sale attack of Dinsmore, D Buckingham and R Simpson produced an array of goals. Great midfield work from Hammond, Spittle and Morrison on face off, as well as great work from the Sale defence and Arrowsmith in goal ensured a clear path through weak opposition. The scoreline should have been higher than 14-2, but missed chances and two late goals from Norbury resulted from Sale's complacency. The Sale scorers were R Simspon (4), Dinsmore (12), Buckingham (3), Burke (2) and one each from Morrison, Hammond and Thomas S.
