TRAFFORD residents are being asked to get cycling to celebrate Bike Week 2010 from June 19 to 27.
Executive Councillor Alan Mitchell launched the celebrations on Tuesday June 15, when he passed the Trans Pennine Trail’s 21st anniversary ride baton on to Manchester as the 360-mile event passed through the borough.
Some other events taking place include Trafford Bike Festival at Worthington Park in Sale this Sunday (June 20), where there will be roller racing, vintage bikes on display, mountain bike skill sessions and bike security markings.
There will also be a number of organised bike rides throughout Trafford including Altrincham Family Ride on June 26, an adult ride through Sale Water Park on June 18 and a group cycle commute into the city centre on June 25 with a free breakfast.
Free adult cycle training will be available at St Andrew’s Centre in Old Trafford on June 19 and there will be a drop-in puncture session at Sale Waterside on June 21.
Executive Councillor Alan Mitchell said: "Cycling is a great activity to get involved in. Not only does it keep you healthy, but it helps us to keep our roads less congested and safer. I’d encourage all people living and working in Trafford to give cycling a go for Bike Week. I’ll certainly be getting on my bike to join in the celebrations!"
Organisations can sign up for the GM Cycle Workplace Challenge, which encourages staff to ride a bike to compete for prizes, at www.gmworkplacechallenge.org.uk.
