A MESSENGER-backed appeal to save a Trafford animal sanctuary has raised tens of thousands of pounds - and helped to rehome a succession of cats.
The Society for Abandoned Animals' (SAA) 'Save Our Sanctuary' appeal has raised almost £40,000 towards its £50,000 target wiithin two months, thanks to the support of Messenger readers.
Animal lovers have also been helping the sanctuary to rehome cats.
Now the SAA is appealing for them to provide a similar helping hand to its rabbits.
Community fundraiser Sally Laffan said: "Not only have readers helped us to raise £39,680 to support the sanctuary, we have also been successfully rehoming cats as soon as they are able to move into our homing unit.
"It would be amazing if we could, with the help of Messenger readers, achieve the same for the rabbits in our care.
"We currently have 17 gorgeous rabbits on site all looking for new homes."
Anyone who can help should call SAA on 0161 973 5318 or email office@saarescue.co.uk The sanctuary is holding a volunteers open event on September 25 and 26 between 12 noon and 4pm - all welcome.
