STRETFORD and Urmston MP Kate Green has signed an Early Day Motion against the government’s plans to omit RE from the key subjects in the new English Baccalaureate.
To date almost a hundred MPs have signed the motion.
“I think that religious education, incorporating learning about all world religions, is very important as a means of encouraging understanding and respect for other cultures and communities,” she told SUM. “That’s why I signed an EDM to pledge my support for the inclusion of RE in the Baccalaureate.
“I have been contacted by many residents regarding this, so as well as signing the EDM, I have written to the education secretary Michael Gove for his comments on the government’s position,” she added.
