Looking for a new way to get fit for the summer?
Then head over to Formby on 4 and 5 June – and burn up some calories on a Nordic walking taster session.
About 90% of the body’s muscles are used in Nordic walking, and it burns 20% more calories than ordinary walking.
As well as gaining these physical benefits, participants are able to enjoy taking exercise in the outdoors.
Sessions will be 45 minutes long, and will be run by Georgina Morton a qualified fitness instructor who specialises in Nordic Walking.
“Nordic walking is an enhancement of ordinary walking- it makes something we can do twice as effective” says Georgina.
“Nordic walking uses poles in order to add two major benefits to ordinary walking: the use of poles means the upper body muscles are used as well as the legs - and they propel the walker along.
"This means the walker works harder than usual, yet the support given by the poles makes it feel easier!”
Andrew Brockbank, countryside manager at Formby said: “We’re really happy to be able to promote a new outdoor activity at Formby, and to encourage people to get fit in the great outdoors.
"We already know that lots of people enjoy walking on the property, and hope that some of these will be inspired to try something new. We’ll be introducing a number of new outdoor activities to Formby over the coming months to help people enjoy more of our outdoor space.”
Poles will be provided and the cost is £3 per person. Places are limited, so booking is essential on 01704 878591.
