FOOTBALL legend Sir Bobby Charlton will carry the Olympic flame as it passes Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium on Sunday morning.
The 1966 World Cup winner is one of 14 torchbearers running in Trafford from the Lowry footbridge at 6.15am.
Sir Bobby, aged 74, is scheduled to carry the flame from Water’s Reach to Old Trafford, which is an Olympic football venue. He will stop for a photo opportunity in front of the iconic Trinity statue, which depicts United's ‘Holy Trinity’ of himself, George Best and Denis Law.
Meanwhile, straight after the torch relay, residents are invited to head to Lancashire County Cricket Club to help Trafford break a world record – by eating breakfast!
As part of their Good Morning Trafford event at 7am, organisers want to record the greatest number of people eating cereal at a single venue.
We’ve teamed up with Trafford Council to promote a fantastic giveaway for Messenger readers. Simply tweet @trafford_2012 or email dan.foster@ trafford.gov.uk before midnight on Saturday, with a guess of what the record-breaking number will be, and you could be the lucky winner of a family pass to LegoLand Discovery Centre at the Trafford Centre or a runner-up prize of a £20 gift voucher for the Lowry Outlet Mall.
