URMSTON Tennis Club is for the first time entering a number of junior teams into the LTA league and putting out a call to any junior tennis players - whatever their standard - to come and be part of an exciting development at the club.
The club on Moorside Road in Urmston, runs junior coaching sessions throughout the week on a year round basis and with the numbers of juniors growing year on year, has now entered five teams into the local LTA AEGON league.
The club has entered teams into the mixed under 8s, mixed under 9s, under 12 boys, under 14 boys and under 18 boys with matches commencing in October against clubs in the Cheshire and South Manchester area.
This will ensure the juniors get chance to play in the winter and keep their skills up in what is traditionally seen as a summer sport.
The club chairman, Chris Ryan, said: “I’m really pleased that we have been able to enter teams in the local winter leagues as this is really important for the development of our junior players and follows other sports like football, cricket and rugby who always play matches alongside their training sessions.
"Our junior coaching sessions have just begun again after the summer holidays and I’d encourage any juniors out there to come and join us. We are always keen to welcome new players, especially girls, as the juniors are the future of the club.”
The club is also running an open afternoon session from 1.30pm for potential new junior members on Saturday, October 24with a chance to take part in a coaching session with coach, Dave Martin. The session is also open to adults to come and play mixed doubles and meet members of the club.
