THE councillors from Ashton upon Mersey Ward, Mike Whetton, John Lamb and Brian Rigby organised the sixth Mayoral Charity Chinese Banquet this week.
Held at The Gonbay Cantonese restaurant in Altrincham, the sell-out event raised £1,488 for the Mayor of Trafford’s charity fund which this year is supporting The Christie Charitable Fund and Age UK Trafford.
Almost one hundred people attended for the five course banquet meal, including many Trafford councillors from across the political divide.
Cllr Mike Whetton said “We started this six years ago to help the charity of that year’s mayor and our Chinese Banquet fund-raiser has now become an established event. We receive great support from Mei Lan Huang and her staff at the Gonbay Cantonese, as well as numerous donations of raffle prizes. This year we came close to exceeding £10,000 as the running total of funds raised for Trafford Mayors’ charities.
This year’s Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor John Holden and his wife Christine, attended the event and thanked everyone for their support which yielded a welcome contribution to the charity fund.
