A police cordon has been lifted after a failed cash machine explosion robbery closed several Timperley roads.
Officers were called to Stockport Road at 3.15am to reports of the robbery.
The explosion failed and the offenders did not manage to access any cash.
A statement from GMP said: "Upon police arrival, parts of the explosive device were found at the scene.
"As a precaution, specialist officers are in attendance and will carry out a controlled explosion.
"A very small number of house have been evacuated to ensure their safety."
Bomb disposal experts have now left the scene, and roads in the area have now reopened, but the Co-op remains closed.
No arrests have been made but enquires are ongoing.
Crime scene investigation officers are now dealing with the incident.
