FIVE-year-old Yasmin Hardy-Taylor was so moved by the plight of the newborn kittens at the Society for Abandoned Animals that she wrote to Messenger with ideas for their names.
The six kittens were born at the Barfoot Bridge sanctuary in July after their mum Dory was dumped there pregnant and with two 10-week-old kittens in tow.
Messenger is currently running an appeal with the cash-stricken sanctuary to raise £50,000 and asked reader’s to name Dory’s newborn kittens.
Yasmin, from Cromwell Road in Stretford, wrote this letter into the Messenger with suggestions for their names.
She suggested calling the white kitten Sugar, the grey one Pebbles, the three ginger kittens Marmalade, Jammy and Binky and the tortoiseshell kitten Belle.
The St Teresa's RC Primary School pupil also wrote that she hoped the ‘kittens and the mummy cat are feeling better now’.
“I hope you like all my names for Dory’s babies,” she said.
Yasmin’s mum secondary school teacher Carmel Hardy, 38, said she had explained what the sanctuary was and why it needed money to her daughter after seeing the photos of the kittens in the paper.
The family, which also includes dad Nev Taylor, 48, and three-year-old Kaden are planning to donate £100 to the sanctuary’s fund.
“It is a brilliant cause and I wouldn’t want to see something like that fail.
“It’s fantastic the work they do, I hope they succeed and meet their £50,000 target,” she said.
The cat-lover adopted a stray cat six years ago when she was pregnant with Yasmin and Papa is a much-loved family pet.
“Yasmin loves all animals, especially cats.
“She took a lot of pride in the letter,” Carmel said.
Messenger would like to thank everyone who submitted suggestions for the kitten’s names.
