BOSSES at a firm currently building a papermill in Partington say rumours it is incorporating a biomass energy incinerator within the plans are not true.
Spanish firm SAICA is part way through the project at Partington Wharfside which will begin operations next year. This week the firm scotched rumours which suggest the company has submitted plans to include a 50 megawattt energy producing biomass plant, similar to the scheme currently on the table by Peel Energy.
A spokesman for the firm told Messenger the plant would be incinerating some waste products such as plastics which occurred as a by-product of waste paper recycling. But SAICA say while heat from burning this material would be used to create energy for the plant alongside a gas powered steam turbine - with spare power fed back into the Grid - it is totally different from the biomass powerplant being proposed by Peel which is specifically for power generation and would burn different types of waste products.
“We’ve been completely honest about this and this information which was made public at our consultation meetings,” said a company spokesman.
