ASHTON on Mersey RUFC’s mini teams enjoyed a fantastic end to the season , coming away from the recent Cheshire Cup with trophies in hand.

The Under 10s formed a Barbarians side with Stockport B and after a tough group stage in the Cup, made it through to the final of the Mike Owen trophy beating Chester by the only try of the game.

The Under 9s were not to be left out, sharing the spoils with Marple Dragons to lift the Cheshire Shield after a 2-2 draw.

Ashton’s Under 8s were unlucky not to make it a hat-trick of trophies after making it to the semi-final of the Cheshire Vase.

The Under 10s Barbarians team almost repeated their success at the Wilmslow Festival, losing a close encounter in the Plate final three tries to two.

Ashton are keen to welcome any new players to their mini and junior teams. Summer training starts on Wednesday, June 12 at 6.30pm at their Banky Lane home.

Next season Ashton will be running teams at Under 7/8 level (Years 2 & 3), Under 9 (Year 4), Under 10 (Year 5), Under 11 (Year 6) and Under 16 (Year 11).

No previous rugby experience is needed and all are welcome to give rugby a try.
