Trafford 3 Maine Road 0
TRAFFORD bounced back from Saturday's defeat against Salford to thrash fourth placed Maine Road 3-0 in their North West Counties League fixture at Shawe View on Tuesday night.
Both teams were committed to attacking and creative football but it wasn't until the 30th minute that the first goalscoring opportunity arose when the visitors striker Gareth Richards fed ex-Trafford man Mike Turner who shot wide of the far post.
Maine Road keeper Greg Hall then saved at the foot of the post from a Billy McCartney header before, in the 35th minute, Trafford stormed ahead, little Wes Lydiate powering a header into the bottom corner following a Paul Ashton free kick.
In the 43rd minute a great move down the right involving Troy Hayder and Glyn Barker ended with Maine's midfielder Steve Cheetham blatantly pulling back Paul Ashton and Glyn Barker stepped forward to slot the resultant penalty past Hall.
Trafford were the dominant force for much of the second half and in the 54th minute Troy Hayder had a great chance to make it three but lobbed the ball weakly into Hall's hands after being set free.
Glyn Barker was then thwarted by the legs of goalkeeper Hall whilst at the other end visiting skipper Neil Chappell glanced a header wide following a left wing corner.
The scoring was completed five minutes from time when Paul Ashton broke down the left, substitute Levi Kennedy miskicked the low cross but the ball fell kindly to Chris Jackson who fired home from eight yards.
The result against Maine Road was just the boost Trafford needed after they had squandered a two-goal lead against Salford City.
Trafford opened the scoring when they when Barker lashed home a controversial penalty and Damien Rooney stopped a Salford spot kick before new signing Max Kisseh blasted a great shot from 20 yards into the top corner to double his team's lead after the break.
John Robinson pulled one back for the visitors with a fine shot from 20 yards and when Trafford only half cleared a free kick, Tunji Moses levelled the scores.
Salford completed a remarkable comeback 11 minutes from time when dangerman Robinson struck again to seal a 3-2 win.
