TIMPERLEY remain on course for a memorable title-double this season after booking their place in the semi-finals of the Daily Telegraph Senior Flags at the weekend.

The Stockport Road side dug deep to down Rochdale 13-8 in this year's quarter-finals on Saturday - and with victory remain on course to win cup and league honours this season.

Rob Macklin's on-song side are second in the Men's North of England League Premier Division having won nine of their ten league matches this season.

And with a game in hand on leaders and defending champions Stockport are in a strong position to win long-overdue honours this season.

"Personally, I think I've only ever played in one semi-final before," revealed Timperley skipper Rob Macklin.

"If we can get to the Senior Flags final that would be a great achievement for the club.

"It's been a great season so far, but there's still some decent teams in the Flags - and there's a lot of work to do in the league.

"But we've played all the teams who are left in the league and got a result, so we know we've got a chance."

Mike Armstrong led the charge on Saturday with four goals, while England international Andy Brickell weighed in with an important hat-trick as Timperley stamped their authority on last season's promoted club.

Lee Warburton and Steve Parkinson netted doubles, while Will Sandy and captain Macklin scored the rest of the goals.

Earlier this season Timperley lost influential Australian playmaker Ryan Garnsworthy, but despite the midfielder having returned Down Under, Macklin remains confident his team are strong enough to win a title, it not two this season.

"We're played ten league games this season, five with him and five without him, and we're still going well," added Macklin.

"If Ryan was here it would be a lot easier to win the league and Flags, but we've still good chance."

There was also joy for Timperley A as they edged Brooklands Hulmeians A to book their place in the semi-finals of the Stockport Cup.

The draw for this year's semi-finals in all cup competitions will be made on February 2nd at the next North of England League Open Forum Meeting. All semi-final matches will be played on March 13th.

Meanwhile Timperley Under-19s slipped to a 9-5 defeat against Stockport in the Norman Barber Northern Knockout Cup.

However, despite defeat the teenagers have a chance to win honours in the Plate competition. They have been drawn against Sheffield Steelers, with the match to be played this Sunday.
