Jamie Spencer landed his first five wicket haul as Timperley Seconds went clear at the top of the table.

The in-form 15-year-old all rounder ended up with figures of five for 37 off his nine overs as Heaton Mersey crashed to 179 all out.

It was a highly-anticipated fixture between the two teams who started the day as joint leaders.

Opener Dylan Parekh hit 74 and the Timperley innings was accelerated thanks to a quick fire 66 from Rob Matthews with the home side posting a highly creditable 255.

Then 13-year-old Muhammad Murtaza Khan set the scene with a wicket from his first bowl of the Heaton Mersey innings.

Then it was showtime from Cheshire county player Spencer who had the experienced opponents rattled picking up not just his 100th wicket for the cub but going on to make it a memorable five.

He was later under pressure to fulfil the tradition of buying a jug of ale by way of celebration - but told everyone he doesn’t drink except lucozade and hadn’t brought his spends with him!

The all-smiling Wellington School pupil said: “It has been a great weekend for me and all my teammates especially as only 24 hours earlier we beat Macclesfield in the last eight of the under 15s Vitality Cup.”

Second team skipper Shahnawaz Khan said: “Jamie who has now emerged as a strike bowler took the plaudits and justifiably so but we have a great team ethic with some very promising young players. Heaton Mersey were under pressure for the whole of the game and we fully deserved our victory.”

In the cup Spencer hit 45 runs from 28 bowls after Giyan Kiran created a sound platform with 31 with Timperley under 15s giving Macclesfield a target of 126 to win in their 20 overs.

The star bowler was Ayaan Zirkun for Timperley who picked up three late wickets - and that left Macc five runs short. The Timperley under 15s play Hyde at their Stockport Road home ground in the semi finals on Friday when a bumper crowd is expected.
