Phil Parkinson has significantly strengthened Altrincham’s defence for another promotion push in the Vanarama National League after snapping up in-demand full-back Tylor Golden.
After leaving FC Halifax Town at the end of his contract at The Shay, the 24-year old right-back received lucrative offers from League Two clubs as well as others in the National League but opted for Alty after training with them and playing as a trialist in pre-season friendlies.
Jubilant Alty boss Parkinson hailed it as a coup for the Robins, as he revealed how the tough-tackling defender, who played from the start in Tuesday night’s impressive 2-1 win at Curzon Ashton, had turned down bigger pay packets in favour of a contract at The J.Davidson Stadium.
“I am extremely pleased to have got this one over the line,” he said. “We haven’t really had competition in this position over the last couple of seasons, but Tylor will genuinely push Lewis Banks and Eddy Jones, because he is equally adept at playing right-back or left-back.
“He will bring real steel and determination to our defence, and we can count ourselves extremely lucky that he has decided to ply his trade with us, because he had a lot of other offers from clubs at our level and the one above for more money than we could pay him.
“He has really bought into our ambitions, and he clearly wants to play for Altrincham and help us achieve what we all want, which is a place in the Football League.”
As Alty prepared for their final pre-season friendly against Bradford City at The J.Davidson Stadium on Saturday (3pm), Golden said: “I’ve been a local of Altrincham most of my life, so I’ve seen how much the club have grown and how there are exciting times to look forward to.
“The lads and the manager have been great with me, and I feel I’ve already got an understanding of how the team play. I’m feeling really sharp and ready to go.”
