The City of Manchester Rhythmic Academy (CMRA), based at Urmston Leisure Centre, achieved three bronze medals at last month’s British Championships in Telford.

CMRA’s senior group achieved bronze in the overall competition, followed by a second bronze in the ball and ribbon final. Meanwhile, competing for the first time at the Championships, the club’s 10-12 age group team Nebula, also won bronze for their five-hoop routine.

Gymnasts Alice McLure, Arina Tsurkan, Eden Bland, Isobel Kerr, Rosamai Halluni and Sofia Kanakides (aged 10-12 years) make up CMRS’s Nebula group, which competed in the ‘espoir’ age range. Alannah Slater, Caitlin Slater, Daisy Beesley, Katerina Kastavunis, Kelis Kelly, Yasmin Mhar, all aged 16 to 21 years, form CMRA’s senior group.

CMRA’s Nebula group were selected for the England Performance Pathway programme earlier in the year and were successful in becoming all-round vice champions at English Championships at the end of May. Senior group gymnast, Daisy Beesley, is also on the England squad and last year was the all-round Junior British Champion for ribbon.

Head coach and CMRA founder, Claire Morgan said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have achieved three bronze medals at this year’s Championships.

“This was the first time many of our gymnasts have competed at this national level and really demonstrates the calibre of gymnasts that we are producing here in Manchester.

“The hard work and dedication demonstrated by all our gymnasts and their families is outstanding and we are incredibly excited to see what the future holds for these teams.”
