I AM writing to pass on my concerns about serious health and safety issues regarding the use of Altrincham train/tram station whilst roofing works are carried out to enable others to be paying extra attention whilst travelling to and from this station.
All trams are now arriving and departing from platform 2, which is totally inadequate for this purpose mainly because of the safety of passengers. Firstly, the main entrance to and from platform 2 is via a Victorian staircase that is not much wider than your average staircase at home. Secondly the platform itself shares floor space with platform 3 so you can imagine the situation every evening when people are getting off the trains arriving from Hale Station at the same time as people getting off the trams from Manchester at the same time as people queuing to board both the outward trains and trams at the same time as numerous school kids hanging around waiting for their friends etc!
Surely it is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt in an accident, and I dread to think what it's going to be like when Man Utd are playing at home! And why on earth did they start restoring the station roof in the middle of winter when surely the best time would have been in August when not only it is better weather but also all the kids are off school and the trams/trains are much quieter with less volume of passengers?
