GREAT news in Messenger that Altrincham's new cinema development is opening on December 8. What a shame though that this development, better looking than the average Altrincham new build springing up lately, is only going to show the same sort of films as its competitors.
Cinema going is well established in this area and there is enormous competition already existing. The film going public from the area are well used to travelling to what are, in many cases, far grander' facilities. There is surely demand in our area for the numerous excellent, but more afficionado types of film like the ones shown at the Cornerhouse in Manchester and the Knutsford Cinema.
To give this town a much needed competitive edge would it not perhaps be possible for one of the six screens to be dedicated to specialist' films, thus offering something a little different from the run of the mill circuit.
