LIKE many tenants in this borough who voted to have their homes transferred to Trafford Housing Trust in 2004, I was appalled to read the article in last week's SAM regarding the planned closure of some homes managed by the Trust.
May I remind the Trust and those people who willingly voted in favour for this not so trusting housing association that there was never a mention in the offer document that any of the homes then under control of Trafford council would be either demolished or sheltered schemes closed down.
THT has not been open and honest with its residents and will it continue to do the same with others? Did we not all vote in favour for the future of a better housing service in Trafford? This included reassurance that people were able to live in their homes and all homes would be improved with the promise of new kitchens and bathrooms. Now the trust has decided to u-turn on its decision to improve these properties Do you remember the motto, your future, your homes, your choice? How many homes under the control of THT will be doomed because they may fail to meet the decent homes standard? I urge all tenants who rent their homes from THT to challenge them before the year 2010 deadline when all housing providers have a legal obligation to bring all properties up to a standard, if this can't be achieved then THT will have no choice than to demolish them but you will not get to know until it's too late.
Do not be fooled by the spin from its chief executive and officers that we often see, this is only the start of things to get worse. You have been warned.
