I VISIT the Unicorn pub on Lloyd Street, near the Ashley road junction, in Altrincham reasonably frequently to meet some friends.
We normally take a window seat. I and my friends have personally witnessed at least six or seven incidents of people falling over central pedestrian crossing kerbs that usually involves elderly people.
Some of the injuries these people have sustained have required hospital treatment and at least one was taken in an ambulance.
The kerbs are not particularly conspicuous, certainly to the elderly, and as the crossings are staggered for access and exit these incidents will continue to occur.
In my opinion, as people generally fall into the road, this will eventually lead to even more serious injuries even, God forbid, a fatality.
In one week just before Christmas on the Tuesday afternoon two people needed first aid early in the space of just one hour and on the Thursday of that week it happened again to two people at similar times.
Since then on January 4 at about 1pm another chap fell on a similar crossing outside the Wine Rack, he was lucky not to be run over.
Luckily the traffic had only just set in motion and the driver was able to stop, get out and help him. The old chap limped away...
These things are concerning myself and others and I want them brought to the public notice. A metal barrier on each kerb, as they have on Manchester Road, would be a visual and safe solution.
